Calling all football fans! The 2022 NFL regular season schedule has officially been released which means the 103rd season of the National Football League (NFL) is about to begin! Be sure to take note of what we’re about to tell you because with short weeks, rest-disparity, and road games on short rest, it’s going to be complete mayhem on the football field. Here is everything you’ll need to know about the 2022 NFL season before it all begins.
1. When Is It?
The regular season officially starts with the NFL Kickoff Game, which is scheduled on September 8, 2022. The defending Super Bowl LVI champions Los Angeles Rams will host the Buffalo Bills. The regular season is scheduled to be played out in full over the league’s 17-game, 18-week duration, and will end on January 8, 2023.
Soon after, the NFL playoffs will kick off with a Wild-Card round on January 14-16, 2023. Then, the NFL divisional playoff games will be held on January 21-22, 2023. Finally, the season will conclude with Super Bowl LVII, on February 12, 2023.
2. Where Will It Take Place?
The league’s upcoming championship game, Super Bowl LVII, will be held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, which is the home of the Arizona Cardinals. This will be the fourth time the Super Bowl will be hosted in the Phoenix area, and the third in this stadium. The last time Phoenix hosted the Super Bowl was back in 2015, in the same stadium, only it was then called University of Phoenix Stadium.
3. What Happened Last Season?
The Bills are, without a doubt, the hottest pick to take the Championship, mainly due to quarterback Josh Allen. They won at least 10 games in three straight seasons which were all led by Allen. The Rams are hoping to win another Super Bowl championship after defeating the Bengals in February. Kansas City beat Buffalo in the 2020 AFC Championship. Miami is about to enter the new year with a new No. 1 receiver, Will Mallory. The Kansas City Chiefs hope to prove they still have a strong defense, as they’ve traded Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for five draft picks.
4. What Is Expected This Season?
The reigning Super Bowl champions are the LA Rams, but they are not the favorites for the championship this year. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the favorites, in large part because of Tom Brady playing quarterback for the third season in a row. The Buffalo Bills team are also likely to be favorites for the Super Bowl, but keep an eye on the Packers as they’re just outside the favorites in the current Ladbrokes NFL odds. They have had a strong pre-season and are backed by fervent support. Let’s not forget about the Kansas City Chiefs winning at least 11 games in each of the last four seasons, which has put them near the top of the majority.
5. Who Are The Key Players?
After 22 seasons, legendary quarterback Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL. He finished an amazing career with seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl MVP awards and three league MVP awards. As mentioned earlier, the Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the chief candidate for the 2022 NFL MVP award. Allen has already made history as he is the only player in the NFL with 100 passing touchdowns and 20 rushing touchdowns over his first four seasons. So, it’s very likely that Josh Allen will be the best quarterback in the NFL in 2022.
