Microsoft working to end Outlook and Teams outage around world

On January 25, Microsoft had an unexpected outage that affected many of the company’s products, including Teams, Outlook, and key Microsoft 365 services.

According to The Guardian, the US IT giant disclosed that it was looking into the problem, which appeared to be brought on by “networking configuration difficulties.”

Microsoft Working to Solve the Issue

According to Downdetector, a service that records issues with digital goods and sites, thousands of customers reported outages on Wednesday morning in nations like the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Brazil.

Xbox Live and Azure, the company’s cloud computing division, were also impacted in addition to Microsoft 365 programs.Around 8 a.m. GMT, reports of the outage appeared to peak in the United Kingdom.

Microsoft said on Twitter that they were aware of the problem and that they had “isolated the problem to networking configuration issues” and were still looking for the best way to fix it without causing more trouble.

The business acknowledged that they had “rolled back a network change that we believe is causing harm” in a statement at 9:26 a.m. GMT.

A Major Inconvenience for Millions of Users

The millions of users who depend on Microsoft programmes for business and communication around the world are inconvenienced by the widespread outage of these services.

Because of the COVID-19 epidemic and the rise in remote work, there has been a rise in the use of teams in particular. The platform, which enables texting, video conferencing, and file sharing, is used by several businesses and organisations.

For many users, Outlook, which controls email and calendars, is a crucial service. The program’s integration with other Microsoft 365 services allows for easy communication and teamwork. Similar to how Word is necessary for office work and data processing, so is Excel.
Statista says that Google’s G Suite and Microsoft’s Office 365 each have a share of the global market for office suite technologies. G Suite has about 48 percent of the market, while Office 365 has about 46 percent.

This pattern is common in most parts of the world, but there are a few places where it doesn’t hold true. For instance, G Suite has a 59 percent market share in the United States, compared to Office 365’s 40%. However, in China, G Suite has a market share of 42.74 percent, compared to 57.22 percent for Office 365. Microsoft has not yet made any public statements regarding the frequent outages.

For the Mean Time

Even though the cause of the outage is still being looked into, it is clear that the service disruption has caused Microsoft customers to lose a lot of time and money.

A timeline for the issues’ resolution has not yet been provided by the company. Those who have been affected by this problem are asked to check the Microsoft support website and social media for updates while the problem is being fixed.
