Mai Zenin Death in Jujutsu Kaisen
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is brutal, and its good but conflicted protagonists suffer. Another character did nice things after Nanami Kento, Kugisaki Nobara, and Mechamaru.
One of the Zenin sisters has died. Mai Zenin died saving her twin sister Maki, according to Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 149.
Maki learned that her twin sister Mai had been abused by their father, Ougi Zenin, when she returned to the Zenin Clan’s house. Maki and Mai prevented Ougi from becoming Zenin Clan leader; therefore, he blames them for the attack.
Maki lost control after learning her father tried to kill her sister and confronted her brother. Maki was seriously injured during the fight. Ougi brought both sisters to the training room so evil spirits might kill them instead of him.
Ougi’s presence scared the afflicted spirits, so he departed. As soon as he went, Mai checked on her sister and was relieved to see her breathing. Mai dreams of the Zenin sisters on a beach.
Mai broke the tension by telling Maki that although she’s about to die, she wants her to push herself to the limit since she won’t be holding her back.
Mai said she’d leave something behind, but Maki must pledge to destroy everything. Too late, Maki tried to stop her. Unsettlingly, the next panel represented them as children.
Maki awakens with a sword next to Mai’s corpse. Maki severs her father’s head even if Mai is dead because of a commitment she made to Mai.

Why Maki must become stronger than Toji to remain significant in Jujutsu Kaisen
Maki journey in the series
At first, Megumi Fushiguro and even Noritoshi Kamo’s motives in Jujutsu Kaisen were extremely similar to Maki’s. They all desired to establish a secure environment for their loved ones. Maki discovered early on that a person’s worth in the Zenin clan was determined by their sorcerer prowess.
The Zenin clan places a high value on cursed energy and considers the use of cursed tools to be a sign of weakness. Geto’s remark that she was “the failure of the Zenin clan” and that he didn’t need monkeys like her in his world in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 furthered her grasp of the clan’s tenets.
In the world of jujutsu, twins are regarded as unlucky since jujutsu views them as a single soul and frequently divides talents destined for one person into two. Mai was content to live in the shadows and serve the clan for the rest of her days, but she would not stand by and watch as her more docile sister was tortured.
In the story, Maki’s goal was to get stronger so that she could defend Mai from being mistreated and denigrated by their own clan and even their own parents. When Megumi urged Maki to take over as the leader of the Zenin clan during the Perfect Preparation arc, this became especially clear. Maki denied the offer, explaining that she wasn’t ready yet, even though she didn’t actually care what the clan thought of her.
Maki was aware that the Zenin clan would not submit to her rule without a fight. She was certain that they would direct their rage at Mai rather than at her.
Will Maki’s role in Jujutsu Kaisen change?
As soon as Mai died, Maki’s function shifted from being a protector to being an avenging angel. In exchange for Maki destroying everything and Mai giving her life, Mai created the Split Soul Sword for her sister. Even though she destroyed the whole Zenin clan during the Perfect Preparation arc, Mai’s wish was finally granted in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 198, when she was able to wield the sword’s real power to slay Naoya.
But now that Naoya is gone, Maki’s position in the show is unclear, despite the fact that the Sakurajima Colony arc showed that she will undoubtedly play a significant role in whatever occurs next. When discussing Maki’s immunity to the majority of conventional domains, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 198 makes a veiled allusion to Megumi’s domain.
Megumi could be the target of Maki’s fury because he is still the official leader of the Zenin clan. A more believable idea contends that Megumi’s connection to his sister Tsumiki may lead him to turn against Maki if he is unsuccessful in saving her from the culling game.
The likelihood that Maki played a part in the ultimate accusation against Kenjaku and Sukuna is a third possibility that cannot be discounted. Whether Sukuna is a collaborator or just a tool in Kenjaku’s strategy is unclear, but it is abundantly evident that destroying Sukuna won’t be an easy task for one person, especially with Gojo sealed.
Gojo acknowledged in Jujutsu Kaisen that even he would struggle to defeat Sukuna at full strength, which suggests that Sukuna would be at least as strong as Gojo, if not stronger, after consuming all twenty fingers.
