The incident occurred in Bangladesh, a country in which Battle Royale is prohibited.

PUBG Mobile remains one of the most successful and lucrative video games on the market for mobile devices. However, in August 2021 it lost a significant player base after the Bangladeshi courts issued a ban. Since then, Battle Royale has been banned in the country due to its “addictive” potential.

However, the veto of the multiplayer title in that region was not an impediment for more than a hundred teenagers and young adults to gather to celebrate an illegal tournament. Unfortunately, the event reached the ears of the authorities, who moved to stop the competition and arrest everyone involved.

DOZENS OF YOUNG PEOPLE WOULD GO TO JAIL FOR PLAYING PUBG MOBILE

According to information by EarlyGame, the Bangladeshi police arrested 108 people during a raid on a PUBG Mobile LAN tournament that took place in a public community center located in the Chuadanga district. This was during the day of last Wednesday, July 20.

Most of the people involved were students from schools and universities that organized and/or competed in the event. It is estimated that several players came from different regions of the Asian country to be part of the event. Anisuzzaman, the additional superintendent of the Chaudanga police, said they will take legal action.

So far, 24 players have been sentenced to 2 days in prison, while another 78 are awaiting age verification. If those 78 youths are found to be at least 18 years old, they will receive similar verdicts.

It is worth noting that PUBG Mobile is not the only video game that has been banned by authorities in the region. The thing is that Free Fire, another popular Battle Royale available for mobile devices, suffered the same fate.

According to the report, the Bangladesh High Court issued the veto last year after Supreme Court lawyers filed a petition to ban these games on the grounds that teenagers become more violent and immoral by playing. Although the ban was for only 3 months, the initiative remains in force to this day.
