A serial interface is a channel for data transmission between two digital systems that sends voltage pulses along a wire. Serial interfaces are frequently employed for WAN communications between an ISP and a host. Frame Relay, T1, T3, and other connectivity types are offered through the serial interface.
A collection of ANSI and ISO standards called FDDI (Fiber Distributed Data Interface) governs data transfer over fibre optic connections in a local area network (LAN). The FDDI’s range can be increased to 200 km. FDDI networks use a token-passing mechanism and run at a speed of 100 Mbps to avoid collisions.
One or more logical tokens are passed from host to host in a token ring network, which is a local area network (LAN) made up of all linked computers in a ring or star topology. Tokens can only be sent by hosts that have them, and they are only issued when receipt of the data has been verified. Interfaces for Token Ring can run at speeds of 4 Mbps or 16 Mbps. Token-ring networks were absent from the networking market for a very long time. There is no Token Ring interface on modern Cisco routers.
In a Cisco router, a loopback interface is a logical, virtual interface. Unlike the Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, this interface is not physical. One significant application for a loopback interface is as an OSPF router ID.
A virtual interface that ignores IP packets is called a null interface. Its purpose is to shield the network against routing loops. We don’t provide a null interface or an IP address.

User execution mode

When we enter configure terminal into user mode, the global configuration mode is activated.Global commands, which are entered in these modes, have an impact on the router’s operational configuration. In this mode, various configurations can be made, such as creating a local database on the router and setting an enable and secret password, etc.
Interface configuration mode
Only interface configuration is carried out in this mode. The typical actions carried out in this mode include setting up the interface and assigning an IP address to it.
When we pause the router’s booting process, we may access the ROMMON mode. Typically, we enter this mode when recovering lost passwords or backing up iOS on TFTP servers. It resembles a computer’s BIOS mode.
