Today, we are going to discuss Brittanie Drexel died at Myrtle Beach in 2009: A suspect was arrested
In connection with the investigation of Brittanee Drexel’s disappearance, Raymond Moody has been detained. On May 4, the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office detained Moody. Moody became a person of interest in the Brittanee Drexel case shortly after her disappearance, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. The police lacked solid proof to make Moody a leading suspect. The sex offender registry lists Raymond Moody. In the 1980s, he abducted and molested children in California. Moody resides in Georgetown County and is being held without bond at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
Brittanee Drexel, then seventeen years old, was last seen on April 25, 2009. She was in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, seeing her boyfriend, friends, and other people.
In 2009, Brittany was last seen at the Bar Harbor Hotel at about 8:00 p.m. At the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard, where she allegedly went to meet her other pals, she was seen on the security cameras. After this, Brittanee Drexel vanished and was never heard from again.
What happened before she went missing?
When Brittanee Drexel asked her mother for approval to visit Myrtle Beach, the answer was no. She went to Myrtle Beach, claiming to be in her friend’s home despite having her permission denied. Even though they chatted on the phone several times after she arrived in South Carolina, her mother was oblivious to the situation.
After learning that her daughter had vanished, Brittanee mother finally learned where her daughter was.
Brittanee Drexel was having a spring break-style weekend with her friends and boyfriend when she didn’t answer her boyfriend’s call as he had expected. John Grieco, Brittanee’s boyfriend, noticed that she wasn’t answering any calls, and he realised that something was wrong.
John decided it was time to tell Brittanee’s mother about her disappearance and where she was after waiting for her to react for four to five hours.
When Dawn Drexel, her mother, learned that no one had been able to locate Brittanee, she was astonished. What do you mean she is at Myrtle Beach and they can’t find her? She asked after hearing this.
She left the Blue Water resort dressed as reported, in a white blouse and black shorts. Dawn vanished on April 25, and her phone stopped working in Georgetown County, South Carolina, on April 29.
Her phone’s battery was presumably dead. Brittanee had left the motel without bringing any clothing, and her pink phone and beige purse had also vanished.
Who killed Brittanee Drexel?
In the summer of 2016, investigators said they knew Brittany fate. They identified a suspect and said she was imprisoned against her will for four days before her death. Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor was the prime suspect.
The witness said Timothy and others sexually assaulted Brittany in a drug dealer’s “stash home” in McClellanville, South Carolina. Shaun Taylor and Timothy were there.
The police said Timothy didn’t plan to kill Brittany.
Timothy planned to force Brittanee into prostitution, but when she disappeared, it raised a stir, so he killed her.
Brittanee Drexel tried to escape the home where she was being detained, but a witness says she was pistol-whipped and hauled back inside.
Theo When carried inside, the witness heard two gunshots. Next, he saw someone carrying Brittany’s body outside. Her body was supposedly dumped in an alligator hole.
Since eyewitness Taquan Brown is the only source of information, there is much ambiguity. Brown faces a 2011 robbery trial. He received an 18-month ban for robbery. He entered a guilty plea in July 2017 and earned a 10- to 20-year prison term.
Federal prosecutors rarely charge state-convicted defendants. But in Timothy’s case, he was assumed to be involved in the disappearance of Brittany.
Due to a lack of proof, Timothy Taylor has successfully argued his innocence in the disappearance case.
Brown’s statement was not corroborated by any evidence, and hence Timothy has not been charged in connection with Brittany’s disappearance. Even worse, he says Taquan Brown is not someone he knows.
As of 2022, Brown’s claim of Brittanee murder has not been substantiated by additional eyewitnesses; consequently, the case is still open.
FBI search in SC related to teen girl missing since 2009
According to earlier reports, Moody was identified as a person of interest in the case in 2012 but was never charged. It’s unclear if Moody is still regarded as a potential witness in the case of Drexel’s disappearance.
In the spring of 2009, Drexel was reported missing near Ocean Boulevard. She was allegedly seized from the Blue Water Inn and held against her will for a number of days, according to FBI officials.
Without her parents’ permission, Drexel left her home in Rochester, New York, in the spring of 2009 and went on a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach with a group of teens.
Police charge Raymond Moody with murder
The reason why the case was finally solved 13 years later has not been disclosed by the investigators. At the news conference announcing Moody’s arrest, law enforcement officials refused to answer any questions and provided no details about the accused killer’s past, recent developments in the investigation, or the crime itself.
According to a report by the South Carolina news station WBTW on Tuesday, Moody allegedly confessed to the crime and directed authorities to where Drexel’s body was found.
Murder, kidnapping, first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and obstructing justice were all charges brought against Moody.
The only information provided in the arrest warrant is that the offences took place in Georgetown County, which is roughly 35 miles south of Myrtle Beach. Moody is accused of kidnapping Drexel, sexually assaulting her, and then strangling her to death. According to the warrant, the crimes were committed “on or about April 25, 2009.”
Drexel was last spotted leaving a motel in Myrtle Beach on the same day.
Since he was pulled over by authorities for a traffic infraction in a seaside town near Myrtle Beach the day after the adolescent vanished, Moody, a registered sex offender, has been suspected in the teen’s disappearance.
Moody served 21 years in prison for the 1983 kidnapping and rape of a 9-year-old California girl. He was also thought to be responsible for several more rapes, but no charges were ever brought against him.
Searches in the Georgetown County region were initially sparked by a signal from Drexel’s cell phone. In the first few years, there were dozens of searches conducted there. Eventually, the trail became deserted.
Not enough evidence to make arrest in Britannee Drexel case, SC official says
The CUE centre claims that Brittany was kidnapped while strolling along Ocean Boulevard after borrowing someone’s shoes at the Blue Water Inn. Her friends called her family to inform them when she didn’t pick up the phone.
Drexel was transported from Myrtle Beach to the McLellanville region of Charleston County in 2016, according to a statement made by the FBI in 2016. There, she was detained against her will for a few days before being slain.
