Rappers commonly go to jail for one kind of crime or another. The year 2022 is not looking well for American rappers, from A$AP Rocky to Rod Wave. The most well-known rappers have been in legal trouble for everything from drug use to engagement in gang-related activities to possession of a firearm. The full list of 18 well-known rappers who have lately been detained is shown below.
Casanova (Caswell Senior)
Rapper Casanova, real name Caswell Senior, of Brooklyn, was detained yesterday (as of this writing) after entering a guilty plea in a federal racketeering case and another count of “conspiracy to distribute over 100 kg of marijuana.”
The Untouchable Gorilla Stone Nation Bloods Gang’s “leadership role” belonged to the 35-year-old “Set Trippin” musician. For both counts, he may receive a maximum term of 60 years in jail and a mandatory minimum of 5 years.
Young Thug (Jeffery Lamar Williams)
Rapper Young Thug, a Grammy Award winner from Atlanta, was detained together with rapper Gunna and lodged in the Fulton County Jail. According to a jail report, the 30-year-old “This Is America” singer is accused of conspiring to break the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO Act) and of engaging in street gang activity.
Gunna (Sergio Giavanni Kitchens)
Gunna is the stage name of Sergio Giavanni Kitchens, an American rapper. He has a record deal with Young Thug’s company, YSL Records. He and Young Thug were recently detained in Georgia as part of the 56-count grand jury indictment.
According to a jail report, the rapper from “Drip Season 3” is accused of conspiring to break the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO Act) and engaging in street gang activity.
42 Dugg (Dion Marquise Hayes)
Together with Interscope Records, Lil Baby and Yo Gotti’s 4 Pockets Full (4PF) and Collective Music Group (CMG) have signed 42 Dugg. He is well-known for his songs “Grace” and “We Paid,” which he co-wrote with American rapper Lil Baby.
After failing to show up last month for a six-month stint at a federal prison camp in West Virginia for illegally having a pistol, the rapper became the focus of a protracted FBI search.
He was detained yesterday after taking a private plane from Memphis, where he had gone to see the Memphis Grizzlies play the Golden State Warriors in an NBA playoff game, to Willow Run Airport.
Oj Da Juiceman (Otis Williams Jr. )
In partnership with Gucci Mane, CEO of So Icey Entertainment, OJ da Juiceman founded the vanity label 32 Entertainment. Under his label, he distributed six mixtapes. On Instagram, the rapper has 294k followers.
The 40-year-old rapper from Atlanta was arrested and lodged in the Hardin County Detention Facility for marijuana and drug paraphernalia possession. Oj Da was also discovered in possession of a firearm owned by a convicted felon.
Rakim Athelaston Mayers, a rapper from the United States better known by his stage as A$AP Rocky, was detained on April 21 at LAX. The 33-year-old musician was stopped at the terminal while travelling from Barbados to LA on a private plane.
According to his new music video for D.M.B., the multiple Grammy Award nominee has allegedly married Rihanna and is currently pregnant with their first kid. In relation to a shooting that happened on November 6, 2021, he was detained.
Rod Wave (Rodarius Marcell Green)
Rapper and star of the movie Beautiful Mind Rod Wave was arrested on May 2, 2022, for criminal violence by strangulation. Rapper from “Hunger Games Vol. 1” is renowned for his powerful voice and use of hip hop and R&B. He is acknowledged as a pioneer of soul trap.
In 2016, Rod Wave released his debut mixtape, “Hunger Games Vol.1,” marking the beginning of his musical career. Before signing with Alamo Record, the American rapper continued to independently release a number of mixtapes.
Bankroll Freddie (Freddie Gladney III)
Rapper Bankroll Freddie, who is 27 years old, was detained on April 14, 2022, for having narcotics and a gun. Additionally, he is accused of resisting arrest due to his active or passive unwillingness to cooperate with arrest.
After graduating from Conway High School, the musician debuted his freestyle “Lil Baby” in 2017. Additionally, he produced a freestyle for the song “Act Up” by the “City Girls” on the “Quality Control” label. After releasing “Drip Like This” in 2019, the native of Arkansas joined this label.
Pooh Shiesty (Lontrell Donell Williams Jr.)
Shiesty is a member of Atlantic Records and Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records. The 2020 single “Back in Blood” with Lil Durk is his most well-known work. Released in 2021, his promotional mixtape “Sheisty Season” reached its US Billboard 200 high at position three.
The American rapper received a 63-month prison term in April for the shootout in 2020 October. The rapper, who is 22 years old, entered a guilty plea to the lone firearms conspiracy allegation.
Kay Flock (Kevin Perez)
In 2020, Kay Flock started a music career and became well-known thanks to tracks like Lil Tjay’s “Not in the Mood,” which peaked at number 61 on the “Billboard Hot 100.” In 2021, he dropped The D.O.A. Tape, his debut mixtape.
He joined Capitol Records the same year. The Bronx rapper, however, was detained in December 2021 and charged with first-degree murder as well as two felonies for second-degree criminal possession of a firearm.
Hoodrich Pablo Juan (Sterling Leroy Pennix Jr. )
In 2014, Hoodrich Pablo Juan began pursuing a career in rap after releasing the song “Go Get Money” and appearing on the Peewee Longway song “African Diamonds.” Later, he joined 1017 Records, Gucci Mane’s record company. He became well-known thanks to his song “We Don’t Luv Em.”
In 2020, he was detained by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for gang, drug, and firearm-related offences. Under the RICO Act, he is accused. He is still in jail despite not having a bond. For Gunna and Young Thug, who are accused of the same crime under the same Act, the path ahead appears to be challenging.
9lokkNine (Jacquavius Dennard Smith)
The tracks “10 Percent,” which has over 30 million views on YouTube, and “223’s,” which Jacquavius Dennard Smith, aka 9lokkNine, co-wrote with YNW Melly, peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100, are well-known.
The American rapper admitted guilt to charges of possessing unregistered firearms and identity theft, and he was given a seven-year sentence in federal prison. Through the Paycheck Protection Act, he had falsely applied for and gotten benefits in another person’s name.
Ralo (Terrell Davis)
Ralo has his own record company, America Records, and was signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Records through Interscope Records. He became well-known after the 2015 release of his song “Can’t Lie,” which he co-wrote with rapper Future.
Due to his 2018 narcotics case, Ralo has been imprisoned for almost four years. After he was discovered using an Apple Watch to conduct narcotics sales from behind bars, his bond was revoked earlier.
These rappers chose the wrong path despite achieving enormous popularity. They now only have a jail sentence and a criminal record, thanks to the adage “The harsher the crime, the more seriously people seem to take your music.” Although they cannot be held responsible, their acts most certainly can. Rio Da Yung Og (Da’mario Horne-McCullough)
In 2021, the rapper from Flint entered a plea of guilty to using a gun to advance a narcotics trafficking offence. He is currently serving a five-year term. The inclusion of the 28-year-old in Lil Yachty’s album “Stunt Double” was bittersweet because it came after his arrest. As a leader in hip hop on his own, Rio Da Yung was ascending the ranks.
YFN Lucci (Rayshawn Lamar Bennett)
American rapper, singer, and composer YFN Lucci hails from Atlanta, Georgia. 2014 saw the publication of his debut mixtape, Wish Me Well, as well as the signing of a record deal with Think It’s A Game Entertainment.
The 31-year-old rapper was detained in 2021 while being one of 12 people accused in an extensive indictment in Atlanta that targeted alleged Bloods gang members. He is still in the Fulton County Jail completing his sentence.
Tay K (Taymor Travon McIntyre)

Foogiano has a record deal with Gucci Mane’s company, 1017 Records. He is best known for the song “Molly,” which DaBaby remixed. In 2020, he issued his “Gutta Boy” debut album. Foogiano was detained in 2021 for running from the law.
YNW Melly (Jamell Maurice Demons)
The tracks “Murder on My Mind,” “Mixed Personalities,” “Suicidal,” and “223’s” by YNW Melly are his best-known works. In 2019, the hip-hop musician from Florida was detained and accused of two counts of first-degree murder. He is still being held without being tried.
